EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

We are ministers commissioned by the bishop to assist in distributing the Blessed Sacrament at Holy Mass in church whenever there are not sufficient priests. At weekend Masses we are on a rota, but we also assist on Holy Days of Obligation and weekday Masses as and when needed. Some ministers on authorisation from our parish priest also take Holy Communion into the homes of the sick and housebound members of our parish.  If you know of anybody who requires this service please contact the priest via the parish office so that arrangements can be made. As a condition of commissioning, ministers are expected to attend a renewal day each year run by of the diocese.

LEGION OF MARY

The Legion of Mary was founded by Frank Duff in Dublin on the 7th of September 1921. From very humble beginnings it now has membership numbering about 10 million people worldwide (Active and Auxiliary),  making it the largest apostolic organization of laypeople in the Catholic Church. Just like the Roman Legion, the Legion of Mary is like an army, but it is an army of the Lord fighting under the banner of our Lady. In St Chad's Parish our legionaries meet every Wednesday at 6:30pm in the Guild room for prayers and assignment of what is called Legion Work. This might range from visiting the sick in the parish, praying the Rosary etc - all in pairs. They are all DBS checked.

If you feel the Lord is calling you to join in this great work, just turn up any Wednesday for the prayer meetings at 6:30pm in the Guild room.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP or SSVP) is an international voluntary organization in the Catholic Church and was founded in 1833, by Frederic Ozanam,   for the sanctification of its members through of the poor. It was named after St Vincent de Paul - known for his charity to the poor - and has spread throughout the Catholic world. Innumerable Catholic parishes have established "conferences", most of which affiliate with a diocesan council. In St Chad's, the members meet fortnightly on Zoom at 7:30PM. Please contact  presidentA190305@svp.org.uk for enquiries.

CHARISMATICS

The origins of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal can be traced to Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit, a Spiritan University in Pittsburgh, USA, in 1967. Since then the Renewal has spread worldwide. In St Chad's the group meets every Monday at 7pm in the Church. Interested members are invited to turn up at prayer meetings from where you would be enrolled.

SACRISTANS

Sacristans prepare for the daily celebrations of Mass by setting up the Altar, the Sacramentary, Lectionary, the hosts for consecration, the wine and water and generally being at hand to supply whatever is needed for a smooth celebration of the Liturgy. If you feel called to become a Sacristan in St Chad's Parish, speak to any of the Sacristans about it who will direct you to the head Sacristan.

FIRST SATURDAY GROUP

The First Saturdays Devotion, or the “Five First Saturdays” is a special request by Our Lord and Our Lady to Sr Lucia, the last of the 3 children of Fatima, to make reparation for all the sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On five consecutive First Saturdays, we spend time with Our Lady in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, say 5 decades of the Rosary, meditate scripturally and prayerfully on some of the mysteries of the rosary. Parishioners are also invited to attend confession. event held after the 10am Mass on the First Saturday of each month.

If yes then come along to our Bible Studies meetings every Thursday in the Guild room from 7.30pm.

It is fun and lively and  very informative.

CHORISTERS

In the words of St Augustine "The one who sings prays twice". Music has always played an important part in the worship at St Chad's. We are very fortunate to have 4 music leaders who share the responsibility of providing music for every Sunday at 10.30 mass. It is our way of representing the diverse and multi cultural congregation.

New members are always welcome, just make yourself known to the choir leader after 10.30 mass.
